If you want to build applications for mobile devices, desktop computers, or the web, you need to know Java. This course provides the foundation for learning how to program with the most recent Long-Term Support (LTS) release, Java SE 11, and more recent versions. David Gassner shows how to install Java and the IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition IDE and start working with variables, data types, and other critical language components. He also helps you control program flow with conditional logic and loops, store data with Java collections, and understand how Java implements object-oriented coding principles such as inheritance.

    Skills covered in this course

  • What kind of software can you create?

    - [David] Thanks for joining me for this course on programming with Java. After you've watched this beginning course you can go onto more complex approaches to using the language. This course teaches you how to use more advanced elements from the Collections Framework and also how to use interfaces and other more advanced constructs. You can learn about long established design patterns with demonstrations in the Java programming language from this course. And there are lots of other courses that teach how to use Java for various platforms and API. If you want to work on enterprise class web applications you might be working with Spring or Jakarta EE. If you want to work with databases you might use the Hibernate ORM system. Or you might be interested in programming with Java to create Microservices. Courses on these subjects and many more are available to help you to continue to improve your Java programming skills.
